Overview of Restorative Practices

This workshop provides an overview of restorative practices and their uses within schools, communities, and the criminal justice system. Participants will come away from this workshop with an understanding of the underlying philosophy and value of restorative practices, as well as familiarity with basic restorative language.

Restorative Leadership Training

This training is open to school and district administrators and Restorative Team leaders. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from experienced school leaders, reflect on the role of a school leader in the implementation of restorative practices, and learn strategies for translating restorative theory into school-wide practices.

Community-Building Circle Training (Tier 1)

Community-building circles offer a safe space where people can communicate openly and honestly, listen deeply, and build a sense of community. In this training, participants will learn how to develop and use circle values and guidelines, the importance of storytelling, ways to build trust among circle participants, practical applications for using circles, how to plan and facilitate a circle, and ways to create a positive culture within a classroom, building, or community. We invite you to come to this training with an open heart and mind as we lean into challenging topics together such as race, equity, and dismantling systems of oppression.

Train-the-Trainer Follow-Up (Tier 1)

Prerequisite:  Community-Building Circle Training. In this follow-up training, participants will deepen their understanding of the restorative philosophy and mindset, explore ways they can be a role model and “restorative champion” in their setting, learn strategies for responding to concerns and misconceptions about restorative practices, and come away with tips and strategies to train and coach others in the use of Tier 1/proactive skills.

Academic Circle Training (Tier 1)

Academic circles are a highly effective teaching method that can be incorporated into every subject area at any point in the regular instructional day. Participants will gain experiential practice for using academic circles in the classroom, engaging students in active learning, and introducing students to restorative practices through the circle process.

Restorative Discipline/Responses to Conflict and Harm Training (Tier 2)

Restorative responses to conflict and harm refers to a wide range of both formal and informal strategies that can be used both proactively to build relationships, as well as in response to harm that has occurred. Participants will learn and practice ways to create a restorative environment, using I-messages to express feelings and needs, engaging in restorative conversations, facilitating circles to repair harm, and utilizing the re-engagement circle process.

Restorative Conferencing Training (Tier 3)

Restorative Conferences bring victims, offenders, and community together to discuss the impact of a crime or wrongdoing and plan how the harm can be repaired. Participants will learn about the history and principles of community conferencing, as well as gain experiential practice with each step of the process.
